Meet Tim
Greetings.  Before introducing myself, I want to thank you for visiting my web site and taking a look around. I hope that you have found the information to be informative and helpful for whatever real estate interest you might have. My name is Tim McCollum and I am about as close to a native of Charlotte as you will find. I was born in Winter Haven, Florida and moved to Charlotte at the age of 1. I grew up in Northeast Charlotte with two brothers and 2 Golden Retrievers. I went to a small private college called Liberty University where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business. After a short pursuit of a career as a pilot in the Marine Corps, I returned to Charlotte and began my career with Center City Realty. My family has been involved in real estate for 3 generations starting with my grandfather who has developed land in Florida and in North Carolina. I began my career with a very clear objective: survive for 2 years. Well, it has been 5 years since that objective was developed, and my goals have changed dramatically. They say that you will never work a day of your life when you love your job. I would have to say that I find that statement to be true. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with helping people buy and sell their homes. Helping people with their real estate needs is a career that provides unique access to people of from various backgrounds. One of the things I enjoy about my job is the feeling that comes from helping people find that perfect home. Helping people find the ideal home where they can live and enjoy life is what my job is all about. Click Here to View Video Testimonials  One area of focus that I am pursuing leadership in Charlotte market is an increased focus on sustainable components to houses. In pursuit of this, I was recently awarded the National Association of REALTORS®’ (NAR’s) Green Designation, the only green real estate professional designation recognized by NAR. This designation was received after completing 18 hours of course work designed specifically for REALTORS®. The courses were created in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of industry experts from across the country; ensuring designees gain comprehensive knowledge of green homes and buildings and issues of sustainability in relation to real estate.Training also covered what makes a property green, helping clients evaluate the cost/benefits of green building features and practices, distinguishing between industry rating and classification systems, listing and marketing green homes and buildings, discussing the financial grants and incentives available to homeowners, and helping consumers see a property’s green potential. Outside of real estate and school, I enjoy endurance sports. I began my adventures in endurance sports during college through competing in the Holiday Lake 50k+ Ultra-marathon. After that, I decided to take on triathlons. For 3 years I competed in XTERRA Off-road triathlons including two trips to the National Championships. After that, I decided to compete in a Half-Ironman triathlon. Triathlons led me to my current leisure pursuit of racing bicycles. Last year was my first year of exclusively road racing with a local team. I have been having fun while moving up the ranks and winning some races along the way.  I am currently enrolled in the Executive program at Wake Forest to get my MBA. This two-year evening program provides the opportunity to earn my MBA, while working full-time, at a local campus two evenings a week. It allows me to think more strategically about the real estate business and think critically. I am scheduled to graduate in August of 2010. I try to balance my thirst for adventure with quality time with friends and family. I believe that it is important to share life with people who care about you. Because of that, I stay involved with community and seek out opportunities to make high-impact contributions to those who are in need. I believe that I am blessed so that I can be a blessing to others. This is my goal. Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you.
