4th Ward
Fourth Ward HouseThe Fourth Ward is a predominantly residential neighborhood that blends restored 100-plus-year-old homes with newer construction. The Fourth Ward is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood that is often described as charming and delightful. The neighborhood has not always been this way though. Today's serenity is due largely to the work of a few individuals in the 1980s who decided that the neighborhood was worth the effort needed to bring it to glory. The neighborhood, once run-down and largely abandoned, now sits as the most desired community in the Uptown. The neighborhood stands as a beacon of restoration and renewal of older homes and construction of new housing in the Urban core.

The Fourth Ward is bound by Tryon St to the East, Trade St to the South, 77 to West, and 277 to the North. Along the edges of the neighborhood stands the most active entertainment district in the city. There are many different elements that make the Fourth Ward a great neighborhood. One of those elements is the beauty of the historic houses that line the streets of the neighborhood. With several houses dating back to the early 1900s. Many of these homes are showcased during the first Historic House in Fourth Ward Uptownweekend of December during the Friend of Fourth Ward Holiday Home Tour. For a small fee the public can tour an assortment of houses in the neighborhood and see the character and beauty of these historic homes from the inside.

One of the driving forces for the high quality of life is the neighborhood association called The Friends of Fourth Ward. The FOFW is the city's largest neighborhood organization whose primary focus is to promote safety and habitability for residents. The Friends of Fourth Ward promotes and pays for the creation of neighborhood art, for community playgrounds, and is responsible for maintaining condition condusive to security and piece of mind.

The Uptown's largest grocery store is located in Fourth Ward. Harris Teeter is located on the corner of 6th and Pine. Serving residents of the Uptown, this grocery store offers all of the normal products in this slightly more compact urban facility.

Fourth Ward ParkOne area of focus for the FOFW is the Uptown's most central park called Fourth Ward Park. This park  is approximately 4 acres and is set in the heart of the neighborhood. Enjoyed by residents for the playgrounds and grassy field, this gathering point of the community is enjoyed by both human and canine alike. Fourth Ward Park is unique in that is surrounded on 4 sides by residential living and is readily accessable by all. This public urban park is a central element of the neighborhood and is enjoyed year around for both recreation and relaxation.

New to the Fourth Ward is the presence of High-Rise condominiums. The city's tallest condominium is located in the Fourth Ward. Standing at 36 stories tall with 386 units, Avenue Uptown currently holds the record as tallest residential building in the city. That title will soon be taken by the building called the Vue Charlotte. The Vue is planned to be 52 stories tall and will consist of approximately 400 units. This building also sits in Fourth Ward and is a welcomed addition to the skyline.
